The Incident

To teach you a lesson!
Vandals shouted as glass
Sprayed into my home

What is the possible lesson?
I wondered, hours later
Still shaken by the invasion
Of our peaceful life

Now the future seems dark and fearful

You tell me why this happened
Said the disinterested cop
With one foot out the door

Isn’t that your job?
I silently questioned
As I learned just how
Hard pigs work

No justice, just a legal system

Why did this happen to us?
I ask the ghosts while praying
My tears stream endlessly

Sunny windows smashed
Hastily covered in plywood
Abandoned yet again
My home reflects my heart

I beg for a silver lining, and find hope
